Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people face difficult situations in their lives, such as having a low-paying job or not having enough money. Some people think it is better to accept these problems, while others believe that people should try to improve their situation. This essay will discuss both views, and I think trying to improve is the better choice.
On the one hand, some people believe that accepting a bad situation is the best option. They think that life is not always easy, and not everyone has the chance to find a better job or earn more money. If people keep worrying about their problems, they may become stressed and unhappy. For example, a person who has a stable job with a low salary may choose to keep it because they are afraid of losing their income if they change jobs.
On the other hand, many people think that it is important to improve difficult situations. They believe that working hard and learning new skills can help people get better jobs and earn more money. Nowadays, there are many online courses that help people improve their knowledge. For instance, someone can study computer skills or English and later find a higher-paying job. Trying to improve also gives people hope and confidence.
In my opinion, although accepting some situations may reduce stress, people should always try to make their lives better. Success may not come quickly, but making an effort can create more opportunities in the future.
In conclusion, some people prefer to accept difficult situations because they want stability, while others believe in making changes to improve their lives. I believe that trying to improve is the best choice because it can lead to a better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of job stability versus the potential for growth through skill acquisition. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the argument for accepting a situation could be further extended by discussing the psychological benefits of contentment or the reality of economic constraints in certain regions. While the response is sufficient for the task, it lacks the depth of analysis required for a higher band score. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reiterates the writer's stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to signal shifts in the argument. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. To improve, you could vary the linking phrases and ensure that the transition between sentences within paragraphs is smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication of ideas. You use some topic-specific terms like 'low-paying job', 'stable job', and 'higher-paying job'. However, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and lacks the sophistication or precision expected at higher bands. There is a reliance on common, everyday language rather than more academic or nuanced expressions. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items related to the topic of career development and personal growth.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are grammatically accurate, and errors are rare and do not impede communication. You successfully use complex structures, such as 'although accepting some situations may reduce stress, people should always try to make their lives better.' However, the range of complex structures is somewhat limited. To improve, you could experiment with more varied sentence patterns, such as using passive voice or conditional structures more frequently. Punctuation is generally accurate throughout the text.
