Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development is significantly limited. The arguments are repetitive and lack depth, making it difficult to follow the logic. For instance, the example of 'Abhinav' is unclear and does not effectively illustrate how accepting a bad situation leads to success. The conclusion merely restates the prompt rather than synthesising the arguments. To improve, you need to provide more substantial reasoning and clearer examples that directly support your position. The essay feels like a series of disjointed statements rather than a cohesive argument, which prevents it from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often confusing. While you use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'On the flip side', they are often used mechanically or inappropriately. For example, the transition 'As a result' is used multiple times, but the connection between the preceding sentence and the following one is often illogical. Referencing is also weak; the use of 'this' or 'such' often lacks a clear antecedent, making the reader work too hard to understand your meaning. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus will help improve your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently repeat phrases from the prompt, such as 'bad situation' and 'unsatisfactory job or shortage of money', rather than using synonyms or paraphrasing. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'hard worked more' instead of 'worked harder' or 'tackle the examination'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items, and ensure that your word choices are precise and natural in the context of the argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'A few individuals state', 'A citizens believe'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'trying to improving'), and awkward sentence structures. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often inaccurate or poorly constructed. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters and sentence boundaries. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like article usage and pluralisation.
