Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent and often unclear. For instance, the argument regarding accepting bad news is confusingly linked to IELTS preparation, and the second paragraph struggles to articulate why one should avoid accepting unsatisfactory jobs. The ideas are often repetitive and lack logical depth, making it difficult for the reader to follow the reasoning. To improve, you should focus on clearly stating your position in the introduction and ensuring each body paragraph contains a distinct, well-supported argument rather than fragmented thoughts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'To summarise' are used, they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between private school experience and professional goals is disjointed. The flow of ideas is hampered by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, which makes the relationship between sentences difficult to follow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'signifcantly', 'prepraring', 'compalsary', and 'devolpe'. Many phrases are used inaccurately, such as 'achive their prize' or 'able for it'. While the meaning is generally discernible, the lack of precision and the high frequency of spelling errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on learning collocations and expanding your vocabulary related to work and personal development to express your ideas more naturally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Most of people thought'), tense usage, and article omission. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing commas and incorrect sentence boundaries. For example, 'If they are comfortable and motivate then they achive their prize after a long trying' contains multiple errors that impede the clarity of the sentence. To improve, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms and consistent tense usage before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
