Student answer (Band 6.0)
some people believe that it is better to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or not having enough money. others argue that it is best to try and improve such situations. in this essay both the views will be mentioned and why I believe that working and improving in bad conditions is more beneficial.
on the one hand, accepting a difficult situation can be tough for some people, not everyone have the resources to make a change in their life. for example, some people have a job that they dislike but provides a stable income which is helpful for their family. similarly, someone with financial issues may accept the lifestyle they have because taking risks can make the situation even worst. therefore, accepting reality can prevent problems which can happen in future.
on the other hand, people who try to change their situation can get a better future as they will be motivated, eventually improve in their personal life and can upgrade their skills as well. for instance, a person who is not happy with his job he might improve his skills and apply for a new position in the company. likewise, person facing money issue can reduces some unwanted expenses or find part-time work to improve his income. although this may take some time and some passions, eventually becoming more independent and satisfied with their life's.
in conclusion, accepting a bad situation can be useful when people have limited choices and need stability. However, I believe that people should try to improve their circumstances whenever possible because taking positive steps can create new opportunities and lead to a better quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of job stability versus personal growth. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument for accepting a bad situation could be further supported with more nuanced examples beyond just 'stable income'. While the position is consistent throughout, the essay would benefit from more depth in the supporting arguments to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reinforces the writer's stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'on the one hand', 'similarly', 'on the other hand', and 'in conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'a person who is not happy with his job he might improve', where the pronoun 'he' is redundant. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'motivated', 'independent', and 'circumstances'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'taking risks can make the situation even worst' (should be 'worse') and 'some passions' (likely meant 'patience'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of more sophisticated or precise lexical items prevents a higher score. Spelling is generally accurate, though the pluralization 'life's' is incorrect.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'not everyone have the resources') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences or comma splices, such as 'a person who is not happy with his job he might improve his skills'. These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures.
