Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that in recent times individuals should accept unsatisfactory conditions in jobs to survive however, others believe that one should work for their betterment. I believe this view has more merits as compared to demerits. This essay will discuss both perspectives.

One of the key reasons why one shouldn't work in an hostile environment because it hampers their productivity. This is because if somebody is going to work in a draining situation it might lead to fatigue and the other person cannot perform productively at work. To signify this point, due to unsatisfaction at workplace an induvial underperforms in their work which alleviate their chances of promotion.

The other reason include the fact that one cannot work under less payment because of the high inflation happening globally. As the other person needs to pay their bills and due to low salaries one cannot afford basic necessities. For example, according to recent survey after Covid-19 the economic situation disturbed globally that even milk's price has risen and annual 54k dollars salary is not enough for family of four.

On the contrary, majority believe that rather than improving their chances one should work in those situation as the employment rate is lower as compared to unemployment. The reason is that due to employment crises globally after the shifts within the world leaders most countries are adopting Artificial Intelligence technologies to cut down labor force. For example, many factories are removing labor from factories to introduce machines which is the reason why one should leave their position as their is no guarantee of securing another position.

Despite, the ongoing situation it is clearly not indicated that one will receive a better offer from any company as majority is working through reference and not necessarily somebody else will refer the other person in other rival companies .

Regardless, of the situation but according to my understanding any induvial should always try to improve their conditions because if they are going to perform well then ultimately it will help in company's growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the points regarding productivity and inflation are relevant, the explanation of the opposing view regarding AI and labor displacement is slightly tangential to the core issue of 'accepting a bad situation' versus 'improving it.' The argument could be strengthened by focusing more on the psychological or professional benefits of seeking change rather than just the external economic climate. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis is limited in places, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the contrary' and 'Regardless of the situation,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as starting a paragraph with 'Despite, the ongoing situation.' The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow the progression of the argument. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more natural and flexible.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'hampers,' 'draining,' and 'alleviate,' though some word choices are slightly inaccurate, such as using 'alleviate' instead of 'diminish' or 'reduce' in the context of promotion chances. There are also some spelling errors like 'induvial' (individual) and 'unsatisfaction' (dissatisfaction). While the range is sufficient to discuss the topic, the lack of precision in collocation and occasional errors in word formation limit the score to the 6.0 band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'One of the key reasons why one shouldn't work in an hostile environment because...' (missing verb 'is'), 'the other person cannot perform' (unclear reference), and 'there is no guarantee' (misspelled as 'their'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the student attempts complex structures, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The majority of sentences contain minor errors.
