Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate on whether to accept an unsatisfactory situation or to do efforts for improvement. Some people say that it should be accepted, while others argue that people should try to make it better. In this essay, I will discuss both sides before presenting my opinion in favor of latter statement that individuals should always make an effort for the betterment.
On one hand, proponents think that people should accept bad situations, such as low-income or unsatisfactory jobs. They believe that acceptance will help them to get rid-off mental disturbance, while constant thinking about such scenarios will make the situation even worse. For instance, if an individual is working on a position that is unsatisfactory due to inability to get an appropriate job. They should accept that and try to adjust on that position for their peace of mind.
On the other hand, opponents argue that individuals should not accept an unsatisfactory situation in terms of job or income. They should work harder to get better job or to increase financial resources. For instance, if people are having low salaries due to less education, they should increase their academic qualifications by joining weekend or evening classes. In this way, they will be able to groom themselves professionally and will be eligible for higher positions with more income. Several studies have proved that when people do struggle and get positive results, they become more confident, motivated, and encouraged to work even more harder.
In my opinion, people should do efforts to make their circumstances better rather than just accepting it. As acceptance would give them short-term satisfaction, while doing efforts to improve their situation will benefit them for a longer time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, particularly in the second body paragraph regarding professional development. However, the first body paragraph is slightly underdeveloped; the argument for acceptance is presented somewhat narrowly as a means to avoid 'mental disturbance' without fully exploring the potential benefits of stoicism or contentment in difficult circumstances. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and nuance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used appropriately to link ideas. However, the use of referencing is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used correctly, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. The overall structure is coherent, though the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive markers to connect sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication of ideas. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'groom themselves professionally' and 'financial resources'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and minor errors, such as 'do efforts' (should be 'make efforts') and 'get rid-off' (should be 'get rid of'). The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of more sophisticated, precise vocabulary limits the score. Increasing the use of topic-specific synonyms and idiomatic expressions would help elevate the lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors that prevent a higher score. Examples include 'in favor of latter statement' (missing 'the'), 'working on a position' (should be 'in a position'), and 'work even more harder' (double comparative error). Punctuation is generally accurate, but the sentence structure occasionally feels repetitive. To improve, focus on eliminating basic grammatical slips and incorporating more varied complex structures, such as conditional clauses or passive voice, with greater accuracy.
