Student answer (Band 6.0)

While some people believe that accepting a negative situation, such as an unsactisfactory job or financial difficulties is the best way to address these problems, while others argue that it is better to improve oneself to overcome these situations. I strongly agree with the latter opinion, as becoming better in different aspects of life is the most effective solution to tackle challenges in life.

On the one hand, accepting difficulties can be beneficial in different ways. When employees are unsatisfied with their jobs, for instance, acceptance is an important part of improvement because it helps people realize that there are more job opportunities that may better suit their personal interests and professional goals. Similarly, accepting financial hardships may lead us to work harder in order to improve our financial situation. As a result, people may look for options that can help them overcome challenges instead of remaining in their confort zone and avoiding changes in life.

On the other hand, others argue that taking immediate action and overcoming challenges is more beneficial. When people maintain a positive attitude towards life and adopt lifelong learning mindset despite facing difficulties, they are more likely to overcome challenges more easily, as they are already developed skills and knowledge necessary to changue their lives in a positive way. This allows people to secure a better job position that help them improve their standards of living.

In my view, accepting difficulties can help identify different options that may be beneficial for them. However, taking immediate action and maintain relentless lifelong learning can ultimately be more beneficial because people refine their skills despite experiencing difficult situations, allowing them to improve their situations significantly.

In conclusion, although accepting challenges is a good way to identify potential alternatives that help individuals move foward, I believe that immediate action is ultimately more important because people are more likely to overcome challenges when they continuously improve themselves and step outside their confort zone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the argument for 'accepting' difficulties is slightly confused, as you frame it as a catalyst for change rather than passive acceptance. To reach a higher band, ensure that the distinction between the two viewpoints is sharper. The ideas are relevant, but the supporting examples could be more specific to better illustrate the concepts of 'accepting' versus 'improving' a situation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Similarly', and 'In conclusion' effectively to link your points. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the opening sentence contains a redundant 'while' which makes the structure slightly awkward. The use of cohesive devices is generally accurate, though at times a bit mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'financial hardships', 'professional goals', and 'relentless'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'unsactisfactory', 'confort', and 'changue', which are noticeable. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, but the precision is occasionally lacking. Focusing on accurate spelling and more precise collocations will help improve your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as the double 'while' in the introduction and subject-verb agreement issues like 'job position that help them' (should be 'helps'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and phrasing slips throughout. While you show an ability to construct complex sentences, the frequency of these errors suggests that you need to proofread more carefully to ensure accuracy. The majority of your sentences are clear, but the errors are frequent enough to limit the score to a 6.0.
