Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 99 words. Because the essay is incomplete, it fails to address all parts of the task. The introduction presents the topic, but the body paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, preventing the development of a clear argument or the inclusion of the required personal opinion. Consequently, the task response is severely limited and fails to meet the basic requirements of an IELTS Task 2 essay. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words and fully develop your arguments with supporting examples and a clear conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks sufficient length to demonstrate a clear logical progression or effective paragraphing. While there is an attempt to introduce the topic and transition into a body paragraph, the abrupt ending makes it impossible to assess the overall structure. Cohesive devices are used in a basic manner, such as 'This essay will discuss' and 'When person starts', but the lack of completion means the text does not flow as a cohesive whole. To improve, focus on planning your essay structure before writing to ensure you have a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the topic, such as 'unpleasant situations', 'mental well being', and 'financial constraints'. However, the range is limited due to the brevity of the text. There are minor errors, such as 'beleive' (spelling) and 'When person starts' (missing article 'a'). Because the text is so short, it is difficult to demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure you proofread for basic spelling and article usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including 'its is' (redundant pronoun), 'When person starts' (missing article), and 'accept such situation' (missing plural 's'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors in such a short text suggests a need for more careful attention to basic grammar rules. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and consistent punctuation.
