IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Everyone believes that situation changes the way people behave and act. But the reality is that, they get overwhelmed whether to accept a bad situation like debts, hard job and accepting them. No matter how hard life throws you adverse situations, the only way is to fight back and get results.

Be that as it may, bad situation can go away but it causes great loss in different parts of life. The amount of time which is irreversible will perish if focused on why question rather than what question. Acknowledging one's difficult situations such as financial decline or bad experience in the workplace is believed to be good sign of human intellectual. This situations teaches more than the theories which could give real meaning of sensing so called tough scenarios. For instance, freshmen who onboard their initial job get enthusiastic but some get frustated as they did not feel the real experience of work culture. Moving further without complaining is the only solution to get away with this.

On the other hand, few agree that targeting the root causes of bad situations can help to understand its occurrence. In addition to this, people can see the patterns of their bad situations and avoid it beforehand. For example, my friend always get bad scores in English language, eventhough he read many books. Later he got to know that the real problem was writing. This proves that understanding the weak spots is more crucial to overcome problems.

In my perspective, progressing from learning the actual cause of bad situation is more important rather than just ignoring it. If this continues then, naive person will always remain as usual and cannot perceive the real case. The hard time teaches the mistakes to avoid in the next term.

Terms like "overwhelmed" and "adverse situations" could be replaced with more sophisticated expressions. The use of phrases like "naive person" feels mismatched; a term like "uninformed individual" may convey the idea more clearly. There are several instances of awkward wording, which can detract from the overall clarity and precision of the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

Grammatical range is somewhat limited, with a tendency towards simple sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues (e.g. "everybody believes that situation changes" should be "situations change") and incorrect tense usage (e.g. "this situations teaches" should be "these situations teach"). While basic complex structures are attempted, they often lack accuracy and lead to confusion. Improving grammar precision will significantly elevate the coherence of the writing.

Overall feedback

The response effectively addresses the topic and presents a clear personal viewpoint. However, there is a need for stronger argumentation and more substantial examples to support the points made. Begin with a declaration of both perspectives, then delve deeper into the reasons why you favor one approach over the other. Enhance coherence by ensuring smoother transitions between ideas and maintaining logical flow throughout the essay.
