Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some proponents maintain that one must accept the worst situation, such as a poor job or lack of money, while critics argue that we must push ourselves to improve these bad circumstances. I belive that we should never tolerate these bad times, rather we must tackle with these situations and overcome them as success do not lie in comfort zone and improvements occurs only when we tend to walk forward.

People who believe accepting the worst cases as a wise task claims that it is a great human skill to tolerate the worst. People accept that it is okay to fail sometime, and some people believe that the entire world runs in the way that is decided by the god, where there is nothing on our hands. Nevertheless, reality is not shaped by the sentiments. At the end of day, these thoughts leave us only with failure and unhappy life.

Undoubtedly, if the situation was out of control of human beings like diseases and natural calamities, accepting the things would be crucial. However, if we compromise ourselves in aspects like education and employment, we will be left far behind others. To achieve our goals, we must be brave and active enough to escape from the present zone. So, accepting the scarcity of money never makes you rich, rather you must have a strong desire to seek for a job, and potential to convert the thoughts into action. For example, had Elone Musk accepted the bankruptcy, he would have never become the richest person in the world.

Hence, we must fight till the end to cut these negative shadows away, pushing ourselves towards the light of success and prosperity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the distinction between uncontrollable events like natural disasters and personal circumstances like employment. However, the development is somewhat limited; the argument could be strengthened by providing more nuanced examples or deeper analysis of why some people choose to accept bad situations beyond just 'sentiments' or 'god'. The example of Elon Musk is relevant but brief. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well, though it lacks the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Nevertheless', 'Undoubtedly', and 'Hence', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing is functional but could be more sophisticated. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the second paragraph's discussion of 'fate' and the third paragraph's focus on 'action' could be smoother to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'negative shadows' and 'scarcity of money'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'tackle with' (should be 'tackle') and 'wise task' (which is an unnatural collocation). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of precision and occasional awkward phrasing prevents it from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'success do not lie' (subject-verb agreement), 'improvements occurs' (subject-verb agreement), and 'accepting the things' (article usage). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. The use of conditional structures, such as 'had Elone Musk accepted...', shows an attempt at complex grammar, which is a positive feature, but the overall control of grammar needs more consistency.
