Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, job security have become very common issue. Some people think that it would be better if we accept the situation of on job unsatisfaction or financial contraints. On the other hand, others argue that we should try hard to make our situation better. In my opinion, we need to stand for our rights and try our best to make our lives stable. In this essay we will discuss opinions that go in favour of accepting the on going conditions or ones that want to improve. At the end, I will give my opinion too.

Those people who accept their living conditions as it is. They will stay in their lower paying jobs, even if they have financial issues. This mostly happens because they have families to look after for and they don't want to take any risk that can affect their job. In addition, uncertainty of getting a better job is a major factor to stay in a same situation with unsatisfactory job and a fear of losing one and coping financially to run their family. Furthermore, in a long term, with an increasing inflations and economical conditions, overburdened and underpaid jobs would be undermine shortage of money and posing the risk of their instability.

However, I believe that people should thrive to make their circumstances better by not compromising on their job satisfaction and try hard to make extra money through other resources. Additionally, if they have any useful skill, utilize it to make money. For example, today people in our country are making extra money by give tuitions or by cooking or tailoring or by giving online services in a different way. Furthermore, people are becoming more aware of financial stability. Rather than depending on single male member, other family members are also taking keen interest in making more income.

Inconclusion, there are understandable reasons to accept a bad conditions. Some people have fear of losing their current jobs because they have a responsibility of a family to look after them. In contrast, people argue that we should always make efforts to improve our lives. With a proper planning, finding a solution to cope with the situation and to utilize our skills in contributing financially, can make our lives stable and better.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both sides of the prompt and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the fear of job loss versus the need for financial initiative. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The second paragraph is a bit repetitive regarding the reasons for staying in a job, and the conclusion is slightly underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph explores a distinct aspect of the argument with more depth and specific examples, rather than listing multiple reasons that overlap. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'However', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although some sentences, such as 'Those people who accept their living conditions as it is', are fragments that disrupt the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints and the personal opinion. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring all sentences are complete would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'financial constraints' and 'economical conditions', though some collocations are slightly off, such as 'undermine shortage of money'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'give tuitions' instead of 'provide tuition' or 'tutoring'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but more precise and varied word choices would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('job security have become', 'inflations and economical conditions') and awkward phrasing ('to run their family'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some sentence fragments and missing articles. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
