Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the first body paragraph attempts to explain the benefits of accepting a situation, the second body paragraph is repetitive and lacks clear, cohesive development. The conclusion is particularly problematic as it repeats a large block of text from the previous paragraph, which disrupts the flow and fails to synthesize the argument effectively. The ideas are relevant but often presented as lists rather than fully extended arguments. To improve, focus on expanding each point with a clear explanation and a specific, logical example rather than repeating phrases.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' is used, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak. The repetition of the entire sentence block in the conclusion significantly impacts the coherence of the final paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical progression of ideas is hindered by the fragmented sentence structure and the lack of smooth transitions between sentences. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next is essential.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'crucrial', 'rle', 'modren', 'eassay', 'ther', 'foe', 'Futhermore', and 'heips'. These errors are frequent and occasionally make the text difficult to read. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use more sophisticated or precise terms to describe complex concepts like 'resilience' or 'career advancement'. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on accurate spelling and expanding their range of vocabulary to include more academic collocations and synonyms, while avoiding the repetition of the same phrases throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and fragmented sentence structures. For example, 'other argue that better to try' is grammatically incorrect, as is 'In my opinion that , try and improve such situations logical'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors in subject-verb agreement or word order. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces appearing before commas throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on reducing the frequency of errors in basic grammar.
