Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both views, the arguments are underdeveloped and often repetitive. The student's own opinion is stated but lacks clear justification or logical connection to the preceding points. The ideas regarding 'unsatisfied jobs' are somewhat confusing, and the essay struggles to maintain a clear, consistent position throughout. Because the response is under-length and the arguments are not fully extended, it falls into the lower band range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and often incorrect way (e.g., 'starting with the first point', 'whereas', 'on the other hand'). There is a lack of clear transition between sentences, making the flow of ideas disjointed. Referencing is often unclear, and the relationship between the ideas presented in the introduction and the body paragraphs is not well-managed. The overall structure is present but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'people', 'bad situation', and 'work'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'unsatisfied job' instead of 'unsatisfying job' or 'dissatisfying employment'. The student attempts to use more complex words like 'introspection' and 'multinational', but these are often used in contexts that do not make sense. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly, and the errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and fragmented sentence structures. For example, 'people doing any kind of work its good in future' is grammatically incorrect and difficult to parse. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used are often riddled with errors in subject-verb agreement and punctuation. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and prevent the communication of ideas from being smooth or accurate.
