Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some people believe that it is better to accept difficult situations, while others think that people should try to improve them. This essay will discuss both the views. In my opinion, although accepting a situation can sometimes be practical, people should generally try to make their lives better.
On the one hand, accepting a bad situation can be beneficial in some circumstances. Sometimes, people have limited choices and cannot change their situation immediately. For example, a person with an unsatisfactory job may need to keep working because they have financial responsibilities. Similarly, someone who has a shortage of money may have to accept their financial condition and reduce unnecessary spending. Accepting reality can also help people avoid unnecessary stress and disappointment.
On the other hand, trying to improve a difficult situation can create better opportunities in the future. If people are unhappy with their jobs, they can learn new skills, gain experience and apply for better positions. In the same way, people with financial problems can look for additional sources of income or improve their qualification to find better employment. For example, a person wo takes an online course and eventually move to a better position.
In my opinion, people should not simply accept a bad situation if they have a reasonable opportunity to change it. Taking action can improve their skills, confidence and future prospects. However, acceptance can be useful as a temporary solution while they make a suitable plan for improvement.
In conclusion, accepting difficult circumstances can sometimes provide stability and reduce stress, but i believe that trying to improve them is generally a better approach because it can lead to a more successful and satisfying life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. For instance, the argument for accepting a situation is supported by the example of financial responsibilities, while the argument for improvement is supported by the mention of skill acquisition. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific, real-world examples rather than general scenarios, and ensure the conclusion synthesizes the arguments more deeply rather than simply restating them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Similarly', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother, and some cohesive devices are slightly repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the development of the argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'financial responsibilities', 'unnecessary spending', and 'future prospects'. While the range is sufficient, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. There are no significant errors in word choice, but the vocabulary remains somewhat functional rather than idiomatic or academic. To improve, the student should incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and grammatically sound. However, there are a few minor errors, such as 'a person wo takes' (should be 'who') and 'eventually move' (should be 'eventually moves'). These errors do not impede communication. The control of punctuation is generally good, though the use of 'i' instead of 'I' in the conclusion is a careless slip. To achieve a higher score, the student should aim for more varied complex structures and ensure consistent accuracy in subject-verb agreement.
