Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, although the position is somewhat inconsistent. The introduction and body paragraphs are relevant, but the development of ideas is limited by frequent grammatical errors that obscure the intended meaning. For instance, the discussion on 'accepting a bad situation' is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. While the prompt is addressed, the ideas are not fully extended or supported with the level of sophistication required for higher bands. The conclusion also introduces a slightly different perspective rather than summarizing the main points effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'Some public believe' and 'Other members of society' are used to transition, but the internal flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. For example, the transition between the example of the 'elder brother' and the 'cousin brother' lacks a smooth logical connection. Paragraphing is present, but the progression of ideas within the paragraphs is not always clear, leading to a somewhat disjointed reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which occasionally causes difficulty for the reader. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive language such as 'bad situation', 'unsatisfactory', and 'not sufficient money'. Attempts to use more complex vocabulary are often marred by incorrect word choice or collocation, such as 'severe them' instead of 'serve them' or 'not renovate from many years'. The range is sufficient to convey the basic message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility needed to move beyond a Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that frequently impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Some public believe', 'they scores excellent'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, making them difficult to parse. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are almost always faulty, such as 'when I meet them they always tense about their work'. The lack of control over basic grammar significantly limits the clarity of the argument.
