Student answer (Band 6.5)

Ups and downs are the part of the life and these situations can be changed with little efforts and hardwork. Some people think that we should accept our bad destiny. However, others believe that we should fight with aur destiny for better future and should change the whole situation. I believe that we should go for improvements and should make our life better. I will discuss my points in further paragraphs.

On the one hand, people who think that we should be satisfied with whatever we have, they stay in their comfort zone and they do not want to make any efforts in their life. For example, if a person is not educated and working on a minimum wage rate, he would not take any risk to lose his job to get a better job. Moreover, sometimes it also depends on the physical disability. Such as, a person is disable, he can not switch to any other job because not every work place can give chance to such people.

On the other hand, people argue that we should take risk and should grab new opportunities. I personally believe in this opinion. I believe that life is full of surprises. If we will not step ahead to open a new door for ourselves, we can miss something very new and important in our life. For instance, If someone has caliber then that person should not compromise with his low salary job just because he is in his comfort zone. He should target better job with high packages and should level up his life style.

In conclusion, although there are some exceptional cases such as physical disability or illiteracy where people have to accept their bad situations and have to live the life they have but I believe that people who have caliber and they have all the resources through which they can change their life and their bad situations should go for it and should have new experiences in their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of physical disability and career progression. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding those who accept their situation could be more deeply explored beyond the 'comfort zone' concept. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and acknowledges the nuance of the topic. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation or a more specific, well-integrated example to fully support the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'For instance' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the general statement about comfort zones and the specific example of physical disability is a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'minimum wage rate', 'caliber', and 'compromise'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fight with our destiny' (better: 'challenge our circumstances') and 'high packages' (better: 'higher salary packages'). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would enhance the lexical quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the part of the life'), subject-verb agreement ('a person is disable'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. For example, 'Such as, a person is disable, he can not switch...' contains multiple errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on improving accuracy in basic structures and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision.
