Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, many individuals find themselves in challenging situations, ranging from unsatisfactory jobs to financial struggles. While many believe that it is best to accept such terrible conditions, I frimly believe that it is crucial to at least try to improve these situations. In this essay both views will be discussed while weighing in with my own opinion.
One of the main reasons to look for imporvements in difficult states is the psychological aspect. Many people all over the world are suffering from a wide range of mental diseases such as depression, stating their reason as a sense of dissatisfaction with their life or employment. While having fears and doubts about quitting or trying to improve their situation by seeking a change, which leads to a vicious cycle of mental struggles along with fear of change culminating in disaster that affects the individual and their loved ones. Moreover, financial struggles should never be accepted and change must always be the priority due to financial security being one of the pillars for a happy and comfortable life.
On the other hand, many people argue that it is better to just accept and adapt to such conditions due to a sense of security in their current position. Many individuals prefer having an unsatisfactory job over being unemployed even for a short period, stating that the fear of unemployment hugely outweighs their sense of discomfort or dissatisfaction. Furthermore, many believe that whatever crisis they are facing it is bound to pass so they prefer to wait and adapt rather than take a step towards change.
Ultimately, I absolutely believe that change comes from the person in distress first and that mental health outweighs all the fears that an individual might harbour. Moreover, aiming to secure financial security and job satisfaction are absolutely pivotal for a comfortable and fulfilling life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that financial struggles should not be accepted, you do not provide a concrete example or a deeper explanation of how one might practically improve such a situation. The arguments are relevant but could be extended with more specific illustrations to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'Ultimately' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow within the second paragraph is slightly hindered by a long, complex sentence structure that makes the connection between 'fears' and 'disaster' a bit convoluted. Improving the variety and subtlety of your linking phrases would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'vicious cycle', 'pivotal', and 'harbour' show a good grasp of academic language. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'frimly' instead of 'firmly' and 'imporvements' instead of 'improvements'. Additionally, the phrase 'mental diseases' is slightly imprecise in this context; 'mental health issues' or 'psychological distress' would be more natural collocations. While the vocabulary is adequate, it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at complex grammar, but some sentences are slightly awkward or grammatically incomplete. For instance, the sentence starting with 'While having fears...' is a fragment and lacks a clear main clause. There are also minor punctuation and agreement errors, such as 'In this essay both views will be discussed while weighing in with my own opinion', which is slightly dangling. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not impede communication.
