Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that it is best to accept bad situations and that it is better to try to improve them—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and lack fully developed support, often relying on generalisations rather than detailed elaboration. For example, the reference to the COVID-19 pandemic touches upon a relevant real-world example, but the explanation remains brief and general. The arguments presented in the body paragraphs could be expanded with more specific reasoning and deeper elaboration to reach a higher band level, but the core requirements of the prompt are successfully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs, and conclusion appropriately. Logical progression is attempted, using basic cohesive devices such as 'Prior cause of my agreement' and 'Second cause of my strong argument'. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in awkward transitions like 'To explicate it, some firm are suddenly faced...'. Additionally, some sentences are joined awkwardly with incorrect punctuation, such as spaces before commas, which detracts slightly from the flow and readability of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'circumstance', 'significant', and 'professional situation'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'resources of getting money' instead of 'sources of income', 'try effort' instead of 'make an effort', and 'loose their job' instead of 'lose their job'. Spelling errors like 'loose' instead of 'lose' and 'for intense' instead of 'for instance' occur repeatedly. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score to a band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with subordinate clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Numerous individuals believes that'), article usage, and verb tenses (e.g., 'which help to built their confident'). Punctuation is also problematic, featuring unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, though the overall meaning remains mostly decipherable.
