IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Good or bad situations are a part of life. It is believed by some people that we should accept a bad situations, like an unsatisfactory job or less money; however, others think that we should try to make these situations better. I agree with the later view because trying and improving can turn tough circumstances into beneficial state. Both the views will be discussed in this essay before reaching the final view.

Individuals who argue that acceptance of unfavorable scenarios should be encouraged might believe that it will help in preventing oneself from mental breakdown and anxiety. For example, when you are not satisfied with your job or you are out of money, you are more likely to become sensitive. If you endure these unlikely situations, you are actually making yourself strong.

In contrary, some people believe that these situations should be tackled in a graceful manner. For this, one can analyse the circumstances and spot the areas that can be improved. For instance. if you lose a job, then instead of mourning, you should find other opportunities and avail them. When a person looks for more options, it is more likely that he finds a way better than the previous one.

In conclusion, accepting adversity is the best way in the view of some people, whereas others argue that we should try to make the worst into the best. I stand with the second view because it can transform the bad luck into good luck. Additionally, you can learn and make yourself ready for the similar situations.
