Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student addresses both views regarding whether to accept a bad situation or try to improve it, and states a clear personal opinion in the introduction ("i hardly beleived that we should never give up"). However, the response falls short of the minimum 250-word requirement, containing only 233 words. This negative constraint directly impacts task completion. Furthermore, while the ideas are relevant, they tend to be somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs where examples are brief and lack full expansion. For instance, the mention of the uncle facing financial struggle is a good personal example, but it is not sufficiently elaborated to fully support the argument. Because the length requirement was not met, a penalty must be applied here, resulting in a band score of 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a standard argumentative structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, repetitive phrasing, and mechanical cohesive devices like "To initiate with" and "In the conclusion". Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the pronoun shifts in "when my uncle face a finicial struggle and their bussines go to the lose but they never give up in their life." While there is an overall organizational framework, the frequent lack of smooth connections and faulty referencing place this writing firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples of non-standard usage and spelling mistakes appear throughout the text, such as "beleived" instead of believed, "not satisfactory" instead of dissatisfaction, "satuation" instead of situation, "modrean ages" instead of modern era, "finicial" instead of financial, and "bussines go to the lose" instead of business suffered losses. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with unsuccessful attempts at less common lexical items, warranting a band score of 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on general performance indicators.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but these attempts are frequently marred by basic grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement errors ("some masses beleived", "peoples faced"), incorrect tense usage, and persistent punctuation and capitalization issues. For example, sentences like "In this contemporary era, some masses beleived that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as not satisfactory with their job and also shortage of money and they do not fullfill their daily needs" run on and display poor clause combination. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, aligning with the Band 5 descriptor.
