Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is very crucial for people to get risks, both in their working lives and their personal lives. I believe that there arre alot of benefits like new oppertunities, personal growth etc. It also has some disadvantages like failure and stress and anxiety. In my opinion in this case advantages are more than drawbacks.

One major advantage is that, taking risks lead to new oppertunities means some time by taking risks we have alot of new options in future. It lead to better jobs, promotions and starting a bussiness. For example, a person who decieded to take risk and wanted to examine his fate so sometime risks open many new and better doors so then people become successul in their life. Also another advantage is personal growth. When people take risks therefore, they experiences many new things in their life. As a result by experiences they can develop many new things like confident also they become independent and brave.

Despite these advantages, they can also face failure in their lives. For example, a person who prefer to take risk instead of other things and then he faces failure because he did not achieve the same result which he expected. Also there is one nmore drawback which is stress and anxiety. The failure also lead to stress and anxiety and due to thi people may get many more diseases in the result of both.

In my opinion the advantages outweigh the disadvantages when risks are carefully considered. Befiore taking risks people should think about the consequences and and also have a backup plan. Because even after failure they can put their efforts in something other. Also taking risks is not like you start acting carelessly.

In conclusion, risks have both advantages and disadvantages but in my opinion it have more benefits than drawbacks. If we try so we can reduce disadvantages by takking few steps only like you must try to have backup plan, also think about the outcomes. So then we can enjoy our life even after taking risks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The candidate attempts to address the prompt regarding accepting a bad situation versus trying to improve it, though they frame their response primarily around 'taking risks'. While taking risks is loosely related to trying to improve a bad situation, the essay misses the nuanced discussion of accepting unsatisfactory circumstances (such as a bad job or shortage of money). The position is stated, but the ideas are repetitive and underdeveloped. The arguments rely heavily on generalisations without specific, robust support. Furthermore, there are multiple spelling mistakes and awkward phrasing that obscure parts of the argument. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing some basic organisational structure. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and ideas tend to circle back without advancing the argument. Cohesive devices are often used mechanically or repetitively (e.g., 'Also another advantage', 'For example', 'In my opinion'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'they' and 'this'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. This performance meets the criteria for Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, restricting the writer's ability to express ideas precisely. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'arre', 'alot', 'oppertunities', 'bussiness', 'decieded', 'nmore', 'Befiore', and 'takking'. Word choice is frequently inaccurate, as seen in expressions like 'examine his fate' or 'get many more diseases'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic meaning, the frequency of spelling and lexical errors causes strain for the reader, placing it firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the complex structures are frequently faulty or ungrammatical. There are numerous grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'taking risks lead', 'it have more benefits'), missing prepositions, and awkward punctuation. For example, sentences such as 'When people take risks therefore, they experiences many new things in their life' demonstrate poor control over clause structures and tense consistency. Due to the frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
