Student answer (Band 6.0)

While many individuals argue that accepting difficult situations is the best option, others argue that it is important that people try to improve them. Although accepting situation can provide short-term stability, I believe that taking action to improve them is better because this can create better opportunities and build a better future.

On the one hand, some people believe that accepting a difficult situation can reduce stress because people do not have to make major changes in their lives. This is because when people accept an unsatisfactory job or financial problems, they can focus on managing their daily responsibilities. In addition, accepting a difficult situation can save time and energy, and this can help people deal with other important responsibilities. For example, a person with an unsatisfactory job can continue working there instead of spending time searching for another position. As a result, people can maintain their current lifestyle, which can provide some short-term stability and security.

On the other hand, people should try to improve difficult situation because this can create better opportunities, which i believe is far more practical approach. This is manily because people can find practical solution when they actively deal with their problem instead of simply accepting them. Moreover, taking action can increase people confidence, it can also help them useful skills for future life. For instance, if a person has an unsatisfactory job, they can learn new skills and search for better employment opporunities. Consequently, people can overcome their difficulties and build a better future.

In conclusion, while there are valid arguments for people can accept a bad situation such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money, I firmly believe that people try to improve them because it can improve people confidence and build a sucessful future life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that accepting a difficult situation provides short-term stability and that trying to improve it creates better opportunities—while also providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as the discussion of unsatisfactory jobs and financial problems. However, the development of ideas tends to be somewhat repetitive in the body paragraphs, and the reasoning could be extended further to reach a higher band. Overall, the requirements of the prompt are well-covered, aligning closely with the Band 7 descriptor where all parts are addressed and a clear position is maintained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as the benefits of acceptance versus the advantages of taking action. Cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to signal the shift in ideas. Paragraphing is managed sufficiently. However, there are occasional minor lapses in cohesion and referencing, such as the pronoun shift ('better opportunity, which i believe is far more practical approach') and minor mechanical linking. These features reflect a solid Band 7 performance, where logical organisation and clear progression are well maintained.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to the prompt such as 'unsatisfactory job', 'financial problems', 'short-term stability', and 'practical solution'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is occasionally accompanied by word-choice or inflection errors, such as 'increase people confidence' instead of 'increase people's confidence' or 'build a sucessful future life' (spelling error). Nevertheless, the lexical range is sufficient to allow flexibility and precision, and errors do not impede communication. This fits comfortably within the Band 6 to 7 range, leaning towards a solid 6.5, rounded to 6.0 due to recurring minor lexical inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. Examples of complex structures include 'While many individuals argue that accepting difficult situations is the best option, others argue that it is important that people try to improve them.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing plural forms ('difficult situation' instead of 'difficult situations'), missing apostrophes for possessives ('people confidence'), and run-on structures ('taking action can increase people confidence, it can also help them useful skills'). While these errors do not impede communication, they persist across the text, preventing the essay from reaching Band 7 where frequent error-free sentences are expected.
