Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on accepting bad situations versus trying to improve them, and it states an opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on staying in an unfulfilling job mentions family and financial burdens, but the argument remains somewhat underdeveloped. The writer's position is discernible in the introduction, though the phrasing is awkward. In terms of band descriptors, the response meets the criteria for Band 6, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, but some points lack full expansion and clarity, particularly in the conclusion where the sentence structure obscures the main message.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall arrangement with appropriate paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion distinctly. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', which helps structure the contrasting views. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in the sentence 'A range of companies can maximise work experience and boost the knowledge.' Additionally, pronoun referencing becomes unclear in places, such as 'corporate such can easily increase salary', which disrupts smooth progression. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate for a Band 6, showing logical sequencing despite mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common items such as 'detrimental situation', 'unfulfilling career', and 'plethora'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation throughout the text. For example, the writer uses 'strive and enhance such scenario' instead of 'improve such a scenario', and 'high-wages income' rather than 'high-wage income'. Word forms are also occasionally incorrect, such as 'strengths their abilities' instead of 'strengthens'. These lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the score to a Band 5.5 or 6.0. Given the consistent attempts at sophisticated vocabulary despite awkward collocations, a Band 6 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and article usage. Examples include 'Several individuals think that it is better...', 'a person forcefully work', and 'it is strengthen the experience'. Furthermore, many sentences contain awkward phrasing and incomplete grammatical units, such as the concluding sentence: 'by grasping different various new skills and mastering it will comprehending the understand and somehow...'. These errors require the reader to occasionally pause, though the general meaning remains understandable. This performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors.
