IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that accepting unsatisfactory situation is more sensible approach, while others argue people should make efforts to improve their circumstances. In my opinion accepting the difficult situation can sometime a practical approach but putting continuous effort to improve your situation in generally better.

On the one hand, it is good and practical approach to accept the ground reality of your current situation. Acceptance can provide stability and allow people to deal with problem realistically. For example a person is unemployed may need to accept the financial difficulities while searching the job. Similarly a employ may remian in unsatisfactory situation because he have more financial responsbilities and cannot afford to leave this job without secruing another good job.

On the other hand, making continuous effort to improve their current situation is more practical appraoch. Making an active effort can create better opportunities and lead long term peronal and financial benefits. For instance, someone who is not satisfied with his current job and start putting effort to learn new professional skills and apply on new better openings. Likewise people experencing financial difficulties can learn new skills and avoid extra expenditure, and seek extra sources of income. Even if these effort could not make someone's condition too good immediately but the results can be seen after sometime in near future.

In conclusion, accetping the bad situation is somehow the ground approach but making a continuous effort to improve your financial situation is more likely a sensible approach and it will help you for a long term benefit.
