Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's challenging economic conditions, some people are deprieved of two fundamental things in their lives - satisfactory job and money. They accept their worse situations and continue to work in demotivating enviroment while never getting rightly recognized for their work financially. While others challenge themselves to make their financial conditions better by improving their capabilities, skills and abilities to excel in their lives both personally and professionally.

In my opinion, at a time when poverty and unemployment are pressurizing communities, many people find themselves struggling without meaningful opportunities. To them lack of opportunities is not lack of ambition but a lack of access of resources. They believe that they have no or very limited access to better opportunities and continue to work without going extra miles to make their financial situations better. Contrary to that, people with optimistic mindset believe that learning and growth go hand in hand. They challenge themselves by improving their skills and attributes to achieve success in this fast paced world.

I strongly believe that people with positive mindset value personal and professional growth. Despite critical circumstances, they continue to thrive and learn without fearing failure. They turn every failed attempt into a learning opportunity hence, becoming self-motivated and unaffected by external factors.

People with immense responsibilities are worried about their daily earnings while adjusting in their existing unwelcoming work conditions. For them, money is significant for their survival. On the other side, self-awared people keep getting better by not letting external factors rule them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both views regarding whether to accept a bad situation or try to improve it, and the writer provides a clear position. However, the development of ideas lacks depth and specific supporting examples from the writer's own knowledge or experience, relying instead on generalized statements about people with 'optimistic mindsets' versus those facing poverty. While the prompt is adequately addressed, the discussion remains somewhat repetitive across the body paragraphs, preventing it from reaching a higher band level. Phrases such as 'While others challenge themselves to make their financial conditions better' successfully introduce the contrasting viewpoint, but overall task fulfillment is limited by the lack of well-supported elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays an overall coherent arrangement, and the progression of ideas is generally clear. Paragraphing is utilized, though the division of paragraphs could be structured more logically to separate the introduction of views from the writer's personal opinion. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Contrary to that,' 'Despite critical circumstances,' and 'On the other side,' but some links feel slightly mechanical or are used repetitively. Referencing is mostly clear, though some pronouns occasionally blur the distinction between the two groups being discussed. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate for a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'fundamental,' 'deprieved' (spelled incorrectly as deprieved), 'demotivating enviroment,' and 'optimistic mindset.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'deprieved' instead of 'deprived,' 'worse' instead of 'worst,' and 'enviroment' instead of 'environment.' Furthermore, phrases like 'access of resources' instead of 'access to resources' highlight minor collocation issues. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but inaccuracies prevent it from achieving a Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and participial phrases such as 'They turn every failed attempt into a learning opportunity hence, becoming self-motivated.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing commas before transitional phrases, incorrect prepositions ('access of resources'), and slight awkwardness in phrasing like 'keeping getting better by not letting external factors rule them.' While these errors do not severely impede communication, they persist throughout the text, aligning the response firmly with the Band 6 descriptors.
