Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both views regarding whether to accept a bad situation or try to improve it, and the writer provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the discussion around changing a job or dealing with money problems is simplistic and lacks depth or broader context. Examples are given, such as switching from one bank to another, but they are overly specific and underdeveloped, tending to over-generalise. The position is maintained throughout, but the reasoning often circles back to the same basic premise without fully exploring the implications of accepting versus challenging adversity. These characteristics align closely with the Band 5 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has an overarching structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, progression is frequently impeded by a lack of basic punctuation, capitalization, and sentence boundaries. Sentences often run together without proper conjunctions or full stops, making the flow disjointed. Cohesive devices are basic and repetitive, such as 'in addition', 'another site', and 'in conclusion'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is faulty due to unclear referencing and abrupt shifts in thought. Overall arrangement shows some organisation, but the lack of cohesive control places this at Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'bad situation', 'money problem', and 'new think'. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'unconfortable' for uncomfortable, 'maney' for money, 'infornt' for in front, 'loose' for lose, 'riggrad' for regret, and 'conclosion' for conclusion. While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, the high frequency of lexical and spelling errors causes noticeable difficulty for the reader and sometimes impedes communication. This performance matches the Band 4 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text is characterised by frequent run-on sentences, comma splices, and a severe lack of punctuation. There are constant errors in basic verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structures, such as 'change the situation devloped the future' and 'if people are did not try'. Complex structures are attempted, but they are almost always faulty. Errors occur constantly and frequently distort meaning, requiring the reader to guess the intended sense. This demonstrates a level of control consistent with Band 4.
