Student answer (Band 6.0)

Life is full of unpredictable changes. There is a quote which says, " You can not control the wind but you can adjust your sails" which means it's not about what happens , it's about how you react. Every person reacts differently and these unique reaction of each shapes their own unique life with distinct experiences.

Some people believe that it is best to accept whatever the situation is even it's bad while others try their best to improve such situations. People that accepts even tiresome and worse situations are usually some pessimists who thinks that getting out of the abyss is impossible. The world favors the rich and talented people while average person is compelled to accept the piece of bread thrown at them.

On the contrary, there are some optimists who thinks that hardwork can take you anywhere and can make you successfull in whatever you do so you don't have to put up with these uneasy situations. There people believe in themselves and their hardwork and they are quite good at perseverance.

Personally, I think that hardwork is a key to success. talent or money may open the door for once but it will close soon. In the world, many people are embodiment of being black horse. They start with nothing but ends up with everything in their hands all beacuse of their faith in hardwork.

One of my teacher started with nothing but now has everything. He was born in a poor family that couldn't even afford university. He did part time jobs, collected money, completed his education . Now, he has multiple acadmies in the whole country and is quite influential. He often tells us this quote " To be born in a hen's den in a farmland is of no consequence to the bird if it's hatched from swan's egg". he always tells us to recognize our talent and work hard for it despite of our background and challenges we may faced.

That's why i think one should work hard and he can break every obstacle in the way of one's success. the success will take you to the seventh heaven and will bring you peace and happiness.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on accepting or improving difficult situations and provides a clear personal opinion. The writer establishes a stance early and maintains it throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the perspective favoring hard work is elaborated with a personal example, the view supporting acceptance is somewhat limited and generalized, leaning on stereotypes about pessimists rather than deeply exploring the psychological or practical reasons why some individuals choose acceptance. To move to a higher band, the discussion of both viewpoints needs to be equally balanced and fully extended with broader conceptual reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, moving naturally from general philosophical openings to specific contrasting viewpoints and a personal narrative. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases between paragraphs could be smoother, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun shift in "There people believe in themselves". Paragraphing is utilized, though paragraph boundaries and internal transitions could be more tightly managed to ensure a seamless progression of thought throughout the entire text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common lexical items such as perseverance, embodiment, and influential. However, there are noticeable word choice, word form, and spelling errors throughout the essay, including "successfull", "beacuse", "acadmies", and awkward collocations like "piece of bread thrown at them" and "black horse" (intended as dark horse). These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight an inconsistent control over less common vocabulary. To achieve a higher band, the vocabulary needs to be used with greater precision, better collocation awareness, and fewer spelling and morphological slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures appropriately in places. There are some grammatical errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as "these unique reaction", "People that accepts", "One of my teacher", and lowercase capitalization in "i think". Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure the core meaning of the text. To reach the next band, the writer must produce a higher frequency of error-free sentences when deploying complex grammatical structures and demonstrate tighter control over punctuation and article usage.
