Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. It touches upon both views regarding accepting a bad situation versus trying to improve it, and the writer provides a concluding personal opinion. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument about accepting a job just to fulfil basic needs is stated rather than expanded with clear reasoning or extended examples. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum 250-word count, which restricts the depth of the discussion. To reach a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fulfilled and expand each perspective with fully developed explanations and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation, but a clear overall progression is lacking across the essay. The response is divided into paragraphs, and the introduction outlines the structure of the essay. However, the use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical or inaccurate, such as the abrupt transitions using 'TO COMMENCE WITH' and 'ON OTHER HAND' without adequate integration. Paragraphing is also inconsistent, with all capitalisation and punctuation choices failing to establish a smooth flow of ideas. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical development of arguments. To improve, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'FAVOURABLE' and 'CONQER', but noticeable errors in spelling, word form, and word choice occur throughout the text. Examples include spelling mistakes like 'BEAUTIFULL', 'FULLFILL', 'INSTANCT', 'ELBERT EINSTIEN', 'THERFORE', and 'SUCCESSFULL'. Additionally, lexical collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'TRY BETTER' instead of 'try harder'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede the precision of the argument. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range and pay closer attention to spelling and accurate word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent grammatical errors can cause difficulty for the reader, including missing articles ('IS NOT ALWAYS BEAUTIFULL'), pronoun and subject-verb agreement issues ('NEEDS AND SATISFACTIONS DOES NOT COME'), and incorrect prepositions or punctuation patterns. Run-on sentences and comma splices are also present, such as in the final paragraph where multiple clauses are joined improperly without correct punctuation. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex grammatical structures and exercise much better control over basic sentence construction, punctuation, and tense consistency.
