Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people argue that accepting a downfall and bad circumstances is in best interests of a person because it depends totally on a luck. There is a time defined for everything, so good time will also come as bad is happening right now. However, some people believe that a person can change his own luck, and should try to improve such situations. In my opinion, it is better for an individual to work harder, so that these circumstances can be turned into better opportunities.
Life is full of surprises. A person has zero knowledge of what will happen in the next moment of his life. Sometime a person lose his job and family, and sometime he has a shortage of money. It all happens because of luck. Instead of frustrating himself and creating a demotivated environment, a person should accept this bad phase. He should try and move-on from this situation, as this can create detrimental effect on his health. For example, there is an increasing trend of suicides due to loss of employement in recent times.
On the other hand, a person should work on his personality, and should focus on the shortages that has caused these circumstances. Many people consider unemployment and bad phase as a challenge to improve themselves, so they can present their better version infront of others. Although luck plays a significant factor in a person's career, efforts and hard work can turn any problem into possible solutions. For instance, a student passed a difficult exam after studying whole night.
In conclusion, despite a bad phase, a person should accept their fall-back, and should try to put more efforts to improve such situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—accepting bad situations versus trying to improve them—and provides a clear position throughout. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the view supporting acceptance is touched upon with ideas about luck and moving on to protect health, but it remains somewhat generalized and under-developed. The examples provided, such as suicides due to unemployment or studying all night for an exam, are relevant to the arguments but lack depth to fully support the points. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all arguments more thoroughly with well-developed explanations and more robust examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression of ideas across paragraphs. The writer uses basic cohesive devices adequately to signal shifts in perspective, such as 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as the pronoun use and logical flow within the second paragraph when transitioning from general luck to health effects. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure tighter logical links between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'detrimental effect', 'unemployment', and 'fall-back'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text. Examples include 'it depends totally on a luck' instead of 'on luck', 'sometime a person lose' instead of 'sometimes a person loses', 'loss of employement' (spelling error), and 'infront of others'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect typical limitations in lexical control. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range and demonstrate greater precision in word choice and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures such as concessive clauses using 'Although' and conditional ideas. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions ('in best interests' instead of 'in the best interests'), subject-verb agreement issues ('a person lose'), and preposition usage within grammatical patterns. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To progress further, the writer must produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over grammatical rules, particularly articles and pluralization.
