Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on whether to accept or improve difficult life situations and provides a personal opinion. However, the ideas are presented in a somewhat limited and under-developed manner. For instance, the discussion on inflation and unemployment touches upon why people might struggle, but it lacks specific extension or thorough exploration. Similarly, the argument for improving one's situation mentions learning new skills, yet this point is not fully expanded with clear examples or detailed reasoning. The writer's position is discernible by the end of the essay, but the overall development remains basic, restricting the response from achieving a higher level of elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some overall organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs addressing both views, and the conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression between the ideas, and some transitions feel abrupt or mechanical. For example, the sentence starting with 'Initially' does not logically introduce the first main point smoothly, and the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and inaccurate in places. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'these creates a better future' where the referent for 'these' is ambiguous. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow requires better transitional links to guide the reader seamlessly through the arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message of the prompt. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'predicament', 'financial hardship', and 'unemployment rate', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form. For instance, phrases like 'unfulfilling job or financial hardship' (missing an article), 'salary class', and 'bad impact on the employe life' demonstrate inaccurate lexical collocation. Additionally, there are persistent word-form errors, such as using 'Other' instead of 'Others' and 'applying' instead of 'apply', which occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the job and also the salary... is', 'person who work'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses ('trying to do new courses which help'). For example, the construction 'we believe that if we should try to improve bad situation' contains an unnecessary modal verb and a missing article. These frequent errors in grammar, articles, and singular/plural forms cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning of the arguments usually remains retrievable.
