Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people think that they have to compromise in their life and some people think that they have to wait or improve the situations. In my point of view, we should start our life with small steps.

Some people who think that they have to start their life with unsatisfied jobs is really a good desicion because you do not have time to sit and wait for good opportunities. If you start with slow progress like doing some small jobs you will get experience and it will help you in future. It is a good thing to get less salary as compared to sitting there with out doing anything and depends on other. If you are not satisfied with your current job you have to work on yourself to achieve get opportunities.

If you want a good opportunity you have to work hard and improve your skills to get a good job. In present time, there is a competition in every field and all people want to become better from other.

In this era, students choose those degrees which have good opportunities in future and scopes.

They do not want to struggle in their life for jobs and want fast progress in their lives.

To conclude, we do not have to wait for big opportunities in our life. We have to start with slow and steady steps and after gaining enough experience we made situations for ourselves where we are able to get desired jobs for ourselves which we dream.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding accepting a bad situation versus trying to improve it, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. The position is not always clearly stated or maintained throughout the essay. For instance, the discussion on starting with unsatisfied jobs touches upon the prompt, but it lacks sufficient explanation and relevant examples from personal knowledge or experience. Furthermore, some arguments transition abruptly into general statements about student degree choices rather than staying strictly focused on the core conflict of accepting versus improving difficult circumstances. To move to a higher level, the writer must fully develop each argument with extended explanations and concrete examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay displays some organisation, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas feels somewhat disjointed, and the transitions between paragraphs are abrupt. Cohesive devices are used in a repetitive or inadequate manner, such as the frequent repetition of 'some people' and formulaic linkers like 'To conclude'. Referencing is not always clear, which occasionally obscures how sentences relate to one another. For example, the shift from discussing job dissatisfaction to student degrees lacks a smooth logical bridge. Achieving a clearer logical progression throughout the text and employing a wider, more natural range of cohesive devices would significantly strengthen this area.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic meaning. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'compromise', 'opportunities', and 'experience', but encounters noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'achieve get opportunities', 'depends on other', and 'scopes'. There are also frequent issues with word forms, such as 'desicion' instead of decision, and repetitive use of common words like 'job', 'life', and 'good'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they cause some difficulty for the reader. Incorporating a wider range of precise vocabulary and paying closer attention to standard collocations will help elevate the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader, including problems with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'we made situations'), missing articles (e.g., 'in present time', 'with out doing anything'), and awkward prepositional phrases. Punctuation is also basic and occasionally inconsistent. Although the meaning can generally be deciphered, the high frequency of structural and mechanical errors prevents the text from achieving a higher band. Developing better control over complex sentence patterns and ensuring grammatical accuracy across basic structures will improve this criterion.
