Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable that difficult situations come into everyone's life. While many people believe it is better to accept situations like an unsatisfactory job or financial instability, I firmly believe that taking risks is good for one's future.

On the one hand, there are various reasons for accepting the situation. One primary reason is financial issues. This is because many individuals come from underprivileged backgrounds, where they do not receive support from anyone. They are the earners. Therefore, they survive through peer pressure or uninterested jobs just to be financially independent.

On the other hand, one significant reason to support my view is that if an individual takes a risk in their career, such as changing their unsatisfactory job into a job that aligns with their interests, that gives them appreciation and stability to do the job without feeling any pressure. Due to this, they work harder and not only do they get the promotion, but the company also experiences growth with such employees. Furthermore, another concern is that individuals have their freedom because they are trying to make a suitable situation out of a worse one. Eventually, the individual may become successful because they changed their job, which results in their dream life. Hence, taking risks is good.

In conclusion, although accepting a worse situation has vital reasons, such as not having background support, from my perspective, individuals should take a risk and try to tackle the situation, as it provides a wide range of freedom and a better life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both positions and make your own view clear: the introduction and conclusion favour taking risks to improve one’s circumstances. The paragraph supporting acceptance gives a relevant reason—people may lack financial support and depend on their income—while the opposing paragraph explains possible benefits such as greater job satisfaction, promotion, and company growth. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The reasons for accepting a bad situation are mostly compressed into one point, and the risks or practical difficulties of changing jobs are not considered. Some claims, such as that a career change leads to a “dream life,” are broad rather than supported with a specific example. Develop each view with clearer explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion. Within paragraphs, however, progression is sometimes mechanical, with several ideas linked by “Therefore,” “Due to this,” “Furthermore,” and “Hence.” The reference in “They are the earners” is also somewhat unclear because the reader must infer who “they” refers to. The second body paragraph moves from job satisfaction to company growth, then freedom and a “dream life” without fully connecting these outcomes. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and make pronoun references explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial instability,” “underprivileged backgrounds,” “financially independent,” and “promotion.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. At times, however, word choice or collocation is imprecise: “survive through peer pressure” does not clearly express the intended idea, and “appreciation and stability to do the job” is an awkward description of the benefits of changing careers. “A worse one” is also vague when referring to a situation. Aim for more precise, natural combinations and avoid repeating general terms such as “situation” and “job.” This would make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure (“if an individual takes a risk…”) and a concessive opening (“While many people believe…”). Most sentences are understandable, and errors do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument. Some constructions are awkward or not fully controlled, however. In “that gives them appreciation and stability to do the job,” the clause structure and relationship between the ideas are unclear. The sentence beginning “Furthermore, another concern is that individuals have their freedom because…” also combines ideas in a way that makes the grammatical relationship difficult to follow. Practise building complex sentences around one clear main clause, and check that each subordinate clause connects logically to it.
