Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate on whether it is the best to accept an unfavorable circumstance, such as financial crisis or an uncomfortable job. Although nobody does not know what is in their luck, I strongly believe that trying to improve any unwanted situations is the best way to survive.

First and foremost, people never know what is going to happen with them in their upcoming future, and they always go with the time and flow of their life. However, sometimes unwanted circumstances can happen to them. For example, they can be a victim of any office politics in their job place, or they can confront financial crisis in their family when they urgently need money. In addition, sometimes, any of their family members can suffer from a serious disease which is difficult to cure from. In these circumstances, sometimes people do not have any options without accepting the reality. For instance, they do not have always a huge amount of money for the treatment of their family member who is affected by a serious health problem.

However, we cannot decide our luck or future, but we can try to improve any situation. For instance, people who cannot afford the treatment for their family members can raise money from their relatives or other social organizations. This can save some lives who were expected to die early. In addition, people can change their job if their current job environment is not in their favor. Without trying, people can never get over these problems, rather these can cause more danger. For example, an uncomfortable office environment can affect on employees' psychological health.

In conclusion, although people do not have all of their situations in their hands, they can overcome their unexpected circumstances by tying in proper ways. It is always better to try and improve any unwanted circumstances rather than accepting those.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for trying to improve difficult circumstances, especially in the introduction and conclusion. The examples about raising money for medical treatment and changing an unsuitable job are relevant and help explain why action may be worthwhile. You also acknowledge that some situations cannot immediately be changed. However, the case for acceptance is less fully developed: the paragraph mainly describes hardships and limited options, rather than explaining why accepting reality might be a sensible response, such as when efforts are beyond someone’s control. Some claims, including that action can “save some lives,” would benefit from more explanation. Develop both sides more evenly and make the reasoning behind your position more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two perspectives, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Signposting such as “First and foremost,” “However,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion. The progression within paragraphs is generally understandable, but some linking is mechanical, with repeated “For example” and “In addition.” References such as “these circumstances” and “these” are not always precise, so readers must infer which problems you mean. The first body paragraph also moves through several examples without clearly connecting them to the value of acceptance. Use a wider range of linking methods, make references explicit, and build each paragraph around one central point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “unfavorable circumstance,” “office politics,” “financial crisis,” and “psychological health,” which allows you to discuss work and personal hardship. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “what is in their luck,” “go with the time and flow,” and “get over these problems.” The repeated use of “unwanted circumstances” and “people” also limits flexibility. Some expressions make the intended meaning less clear, even though the overall message remains understandable. Aim for more natural collocations and precise verbs, and check whether a phrase is idiomatic before using it. This would make your vocabulary more accurate and varied.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “although,” “when,” and “if.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “Although nobody does not know” contains an unnecessary negative, while “what is going to happen with them” has an incorrect preposition in its grammatical pattern. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “they do not have always a huge amount of money” and “difficult to cure from.” The final sentence has a spelling error in “tying,” which should be addressed under vocabulary rather than grammar. Review negative forms, word order, articles, and preposition patterns, then proofread complex sentences for accuracy.
