Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people prospective that making an effort to improve an unsatisfactory situation is more effectively long term approach. If people simply every difficulty without attempting to change it, they may miss valuable opportunities to develop their skills, gain professional qualifications or search for a better paying position. In the same way, someone experiencing finanical problems could create a budget, develop additional sources of income or acquire skill that increase their employment prospect. These actions may require time and determination, but they can lead to greater independence and long term success.

From my perspective, the best apporach is ro combine acceptance with a willingness to take action. People should accept the reality of their cuurrent circumstances without allowing those circumstances to determine their future. They must also recognise that some problems require patience, while other can be overcome through careful planning and consistent effort. For instance, accepting a temporary finanical setback can help someone remain calm enable them to recover gradually.

In conclusion, although accepting the unsatisfactory situation can reduce stress and help people copy with unavoidable difficulties, l believe that actively seeking improvement is usually the better option. A combination of realistic acceptance, determination and practical action can help individuals build a more satisfying and successfullife.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear view that improvement is usually preferable, while also recognising the value of accepting circumstances. The suggestions about developing skills, seeking qualifications, budgeting and finding extra income are relevant and show how people might improve their situation. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and acceptance receives much less explanation: the example of accepting a temporary financial setback is brief and does not fully show why someone might choose acceptance rather than action. The response is also below the required minimum length, which limits the development of your ideas. To strengthen the response, explain the benefits and limitations of each view in more depth and support them with a specific example before stating your conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a generally coherent structure: it moves from the case for taking action, to your own combined approach, and then to a conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “In the same way” and “In conclusion” guide the reader. However, the first paragraph focuses on improvement without first establishing the opposing view, so the discussion does not progress as evenly as it could. Some links between ideas are also compressed; for example, the sentence about accepting a setback moves quickly from staying calm to gradual recovery. Develop a separate paragraph for acceptance and use clear references to connect each example to the relevant view. This would make the progression more balanced and cohesion less dependent on basic signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “professional qualifications,” “additional sources of income,” “independence,” and “consistent effort.” These choices communicate the main ideas and show some willingness to use more specific language. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “prospective” where “perspective” is intended, “finanical,” and “copy with” instead of “cope with.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, including “making an effort … is more effectively long term approach” and “employment prospect.” Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases. More precise wording would help you express the contrast between accepting circumstances and actively changing them with greater fluency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If people simply …, they may miss valuable opportunities” and a relative clause in “skills that increase their employment prospect.” Most sentences remain understandable, and the overall message is clear. Some grammatical errors are present, however. In “is more effectively long term approach,” the adjective and article pattern is faulty; “is a more effective long-term approach” would be correct. The sentence “accepting a temporary financial setback can help someone remain calm enable them to recover” also needs a conjunction or clearer punctuation between its ideas. Review articles, adjective forms and sentence boundaries, and proofread punctuation. These corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
