Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Aristotole once said, "A fool will expect change in their life when doing nothing to change it". There are many people who prefer accepting a unsatisfactory situation over taking any actions which might be difficult to perform. However, there are also many people who wholeheartedly believes that, trying is the only way to improve given situations. I believe, although people have their own reasons to not take any actions such as anxitey and depression, however, taking actions and overcoming such situtions is the only way a person can show their self worth.

First of all, many people who are in support of accepting the bad situation are fearful of anxitey and depression. They tend to overthink a lot which leads to anxiety. It overshadows their life and it becomes multiple times harder to progress. This spreads like virus and infect their whole life. This is the reason many people find peace in accepting the worst and let it go.

On the other hand, when facing with unsatisfactory situations many seems to see trying and improving their situation as the only way forward as it shows the value they put on themselves. A bad situation is a part and parcel of life. Overcoming the hurdles and improving oneself is seen as a positive and valuable aspect of a person. Which is why many people prefer to take actions and prove their self worth through them.

To conclude, it is true that many people can make the decision of embracing the bad and letting it go for their own well being. However, I believe, hard work, dedication, and effort can change the situation you are in and it can take you to a place where you feel you are worthy of it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and state a clear preference for taking action, particularly in the introduction and conclusion. The explanation that people may accept difficult circumstances because anxiety and overthinking make progress harder is relevant, as is the idea that effort can help people improve their situation. However, the discussion is uneven: the case for acceptance is explained more concretely, while the argument for trying relies mainly on self-worth and does not show how action might improve a job or financial hardship. The claim that effort can change a situation would be stronger with a specific example and a clearer link to the task’s examples. Develop both sides with comparable detail and support your opinion with a practical illustration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “First of all,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow, and the reader can identify your position. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the clearer progression associated with a stronger performance. However, the linking is somewhat formulaic, and some references are unclear: “This spreads like virus” does not specify precisely what is spreading, while “Which is why” begins a sentence fragment. Improve cohesion by connecting each explanation directly to its claim and varying transitions; ensure pronouns and linking phrases have clear grammatical and logical connections.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “unsatisfactory situation,” “overcoming the hurdles,” “dedication,” and “self-worth.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to express nuance. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “Aristotole,” “anxitey,” and “situtions.” Some collocations are also awkward: “accepting the worst and let it go” and “take actions” are less natural in this context. The metaphor “spreads like virus” is not quite idiomatic. Proofread spelling and choose more precise, natural combinations, such as “accept a difficult situation” or “take steps to improve it,” to make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concessive opening (“although people have their own reasons…”) and clauses explaining causes and consequences. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “many people who wholeheartedly believes” has subject–verb disagreement, and “a unsatisfactory situation” uses the wrong article. The opening sentence also combines “although” with “however” unnecessarily, while “Which is why many people…” is a fragment. In “when facing with unsatisfactory situations,” the construction is not grammatically controlled. Aim to make complex sentences complete and check agreement, articles, and clause connections; this will improve accuracy while preserving the range you are attempting.
