Student answer (Band 6.0)

There are a group of people who tend to think that the better way to deal with unexptected stages of life, for instance, incompetent workplace and lack of savings, is to accept them. Contrastively, many people believe in the virtues of hard-work and they have the opinion that one should try to improve such situations. I hold the opinion of the latter group as I believe man can do anything and nothing is permanent.

Pessimistic people have the habit of accepting any dire situation because they think that everything is pre-written. For them, the best way to cope with different events is to just accept them and move on. The possible reasons for such attitude include the cultural and religional values. Such people believe that whatever happens in their life was bound to happen becuase they consider that . However, sometimes, prolonged social injustice contributes to such behavior as well. The people think that they cannot bring any change and they just want to get on with life.

On the other hand, many people understand that life is full of ups and downs. They don't consider defeat or a period of downfall their destiny. They believe that they can change their situation by hard-work and consistency. Such people are not hindered by minor setbacks. They keep on experimenting with life in search of growth and better future. Moreover, They are optimistic. They treat a bad situation as a chance to learn from it.

To conclude, I believe that anything can be achieved in this world by being consistent and working hard. We should keep trying despite failures because failures and setbacks are parts of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your own position clearly: you support trying to improve difficult circumstances, explaining that people can change their situation through “hard-work and consistency.” The discussion of acceptance is relevant, with possible influences such as beliefs about fate and prolonged social injustice. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the acceptance paragraph mainly describes why people accept hardship, while the improvement paragraph gives only general claims about persistence and learning. The conclusion repeats your position but does not add support. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each approach and include a specific example, such as how someone might respond to an unsatisfactory job or financial difficulty.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “To conclude” help readers follow the discussion, and the main position is easy to identify. However, some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, “The possible reasons for such attitude include…” is followed by an incomplete explanation, and “However” introduces social injustice without clearly showing how it relates to the preceding point about cultural beliefs. The paragraphs also rely on repeated sentence openings such as “They believe” and “Such people.” Use clearer referencing and develop each paragraph around a sequence of connected reasons and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “dire situation,” “social injustice,” “minor setbacks,” and “optimistic.” These choices help communicate the contrast between accepting hardship and trying to overcome it. You also attempt less common expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “unexptected stages of life,” “incompetent workplace,” and “the virtues of hard-work.” Spelling errors, including “becuase” and “religional,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording: for example, refer to “unexpected circumstances,” “an unsatisfactory job,” and “the value of hard work.” This would make your ideas sound clearer and more fluent without requiring more complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including subordinate clauses in “because they think that everything is pre-written” and “as I believe man can do anything.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the paragraph structure helps readers interpret them. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “There are a group of people,” the subject and verb do not agree; “a group” takes “is.” The sentence “whatever happens in their life was bound to happen because they consider that” shifts tense and ends without a complete idea. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Moreover, They are optimistic.” Review agreement, tense consistency, and sentence completion, while continuing to practise complex sentences with clear, complete clauses.
