Student answer (Band 6.0)

Win or loss is a part of the game, no one can deny this statement. In this overly competitive world, people often tend to pressurized themselves in winning over everyone else. Life has become no shorter than a race for all of us. Some people beleive that we should accept our fate and move on after a bad situation, others belive that we ought to try and test our lucks and improve situations. Both of these views are right on their own. Below i wll discuss both mindsets and then conclude the discussion by shaing my two cents on it.

Having a bad situation such as failing or shortage of financial soources are some of the common situations that most of the people have to face. Some people think that they are a part of life, so we should accept our loss and move on with life. This mindset is true to some extend. There is also a famous saying which goes that " There is no use of crying over spilt milk". Take it as a blessing and disguide and it is always better to save your energy and use it for your future goals.

On the contrary, many people also believe that we should not give up so soon and try to make situations better. There is nothing we cannot acheive if we strive for it. Race for the stars and you will have them one day. You should burn the midnight oil, hoping to turn your situation better.

In my opinion, it is better to stricke a balance between the two arguments. There is no doubt that having a bad situation comes in our life to teach some lesson. We should learn from it and try to do things better to be successful in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a personal position: accepting setbacks can conserve energy, while effort may improve circumstances, and you ultimately recommend balance. These points are relevant, but the discussion is only partly developed. The first view receives a reason and a proverb, whereas the second relies mainly on motivational claims such as “There is nothing we cannot achieve if we strive for it”; neither view is supported with a specific example or explanation of when it applies. Your conclusion also says setbacks teach lessons but does not explain how to balance acceptance with action. Develop each side with a concrete situation and make your final position more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. Transitions such as “On the contrary” and “In my opinion” help readers follow the shift between ideas, and the central progression is easy to recognise. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, links between claims are sometimes abrupt: the first-view paragraph moves from accepting loss to a proverb and then to future goals without fully explaining the connection. The conclusion is also brief and does not draw the two arguments together. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and develop each paragraph around a connected sequence of claim, explanation, and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary and attempt several less common expressions, including “overly competitive,” “burn the midnight oil,” and “strike a balance.” These choices help communicate the topic, and the intended meaning is generally understandable. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, such as “test our lucks,” “take it as a blessing and disguise,” and “two cents,” while spelling errors including “beleive,” “soources,” and “acheive” reduce accuracy. Some expressions also sound like slogans rather than precise discussion. Aim for natural, topic-specific phrasing and check spelling carefully; for example, describe practical steps to improve a financial situation rather than relying on several idioms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast between the two views and clauses beginning “if” and “hoping to.” The main ideas can usually be understood, but control is uneven, and some sentence structures are faulty. For example, “people often tend to pressurized themselves” has an incorrect verb form, and “shortage of financial…” is not integrated smoothly into its sentence. The opening also joins two independent clauses with a comma: “Win or loss is a part of the game, no one can deny this statement.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, as in “Below i.” Review verb patterns, sentence boundaries, and articles, then proofread to make complex sentences more reliable.
