Student answer (Band 6.5)

Generally there are tones of waste generated by citizens of many countries on daily purpose, however few of them know how to recycle it. Majority of people are unaware about recycling wastes. The following text describes how I think this issue is and what can I do to change it.

Firstly, Under developed countries have no ways to dispose or recycle waste, for example they throw plastics and oil wastes into water bodies like river and oceans. Additionally on daily bases no such system is followed at home to recycle waste. Also, In public places people throw wastes anywhere at anytime without concerning the safety of public places which can lead to increase in disease widespread like malaria and dangue.

However, there are multiple ways to conquer the issues. All plastics must be collected by the government in order to recycle it by the industries and use that recycled plastic to make some innovative things, for example, waste plastics can be use to create decorative things which can be display at temples, house etc. In order to recycle metals we must remould it with other materials. Most important issue is awareness among people. To address this issue government should take necessary actions against excessive waste for that they must run campaigns. Consequently the government should also include the topic of "recyle waste" into early education in schools.

To conclude, There should have self awareness among citizens regarding recycle waste and to make their country clean and safe for future generation. As such revolutionary act can only be done by the efforts of both citizens and government.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation regarding 'underdeveloped countries' is a broad generalization and lacks specific, nuanced detail. The solutions provided, such as 'remoulding metals' or creating 'decorative things,' are somewhat simplistic and do not fully explore the systemic or policy-driven complexities of waste management. To achieve a higher band, you should provide more detailed, logical explanations for your arguments and ensure that your proposed solutions are practical and well-supported with clear reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly,' 'Additionally,' 'However,' and 'To conclude.' However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For instance, the transition between the problem of waste in public places and the proposed solutions could be smoother. Furthermore, some sentences are slightly disjointed, which affects the overall progression of ideas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'tones of waste' (should be 'tons'), 'daily purpose' (should be 'daily basis'), and 'disease widespread' (should be 'the spread of diseases'). You also rely on some repetitive vocabulary. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to environmental issues and try to incorporate more sophisticated, topic-specific vocabulary to express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'waste plastics can be use'), article usage (e.g., 'into early education in schools'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading your work to correct basic errors in verb forms and sentence construction. Practicing the use of more complex grammatical structures, such as conditionals or passive voice, with greater accuracy will also help improve your score.
