Student answer (Band 7.0)

In many countries, people do not often recycle their rubish as much they could due to various reasons. This essay will demonstrate, why this happens and how we can overcome this dilemma.

There are several reasons why people do not recycle often, one of the major reasons is there is lack of education and awareness. amongst the people. Consequently, there are lack of recycle bins and machines across the country, which causes more people to miss out. Some people do not have access to recycle bins easily, they might need to travel across the town to recycle, many find this process hectic and time consuming. The government has week policies regarding this and there is lack of incenstives given to public.

There are various solutions to this problem, one of them is giving people awareness. Goverments, cound run a paid advertising campaign which would help people to gain awareness, additionally the goverment can provide, people incentives and benefits of recycling. There should be more recycle bins set up across the country. Goverment should collaborate with people and enforce a strong policies regarding this. Children in elementary schools shoiuld have a mandtory workshop regarding recyclig. The government can also implement fines for violations, if people do not recycle, some people just throw away their garbage and some even burn them. Unfortunately this causes enviromental issues and pottential health issues as well.

In conclusion, insufficient recycling is largely the result of poor awareness and limited access to recycling facilities. By educating the public, expanding recycling programs, and implementing supportive government measures, recycling rates can be significantly improved.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and logically grouped. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention 'lack of education' and 'lack of bins,' these points could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To improve, ensure that each reason and solution is fully explained rather than just listed, providing a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression of ideas from the problem to the solution. You use some cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'additionally,' and 'in conclusion' to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where sentence structure could be improved to enhance flow. For example, the sentence 'Some people do not have access to recycle bins easily, they might need to travel...' is a comma splice that disrupts the flow. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help achieve a more natural, cohesive structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'recycling facilities,' 'enforcement,' and 'environmental issues.' However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'rubish' (rubbish), 'week' (weak), 'incenstives' (incentives), 'cound' (could), and 'shoiuld' (should). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision and ensure accuracy in spelling. Avoid repeating basic words and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations related to environmental policy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('there are lack of recycle bins') and punctuation (comma splices). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'The government has week policies regarding this and there is lack of incenstives given to public.' While you attempt complex structures, they are often marred by minor errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles ('the public') and subject-verb agreement to ensure your writing is more polished and accurate.
