Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and logically grouped, with clear paragraphs for each section. However, the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the argument. While the main points are well-developed, the response would benefit from more specific examples to support the claims, such as mentioning a specific country or a successful policy in more detail. Overall, the response is clear and directly answers the prompt, but the abrupt ending limits the overall development of the final section.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as 'lack of awareness' or 'government intervention'. Cohesive devices like 'The primary reason', 'Another significant reason', and 'Moreover' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as spaces before commas (e.g., 'resources .However ,') and the incomplete final sentence, which disrupts the flow of the conclusion. Despite these mechanical errors, the progression of ideas remains clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with terms like 'environmental degradation', 'infrastructure', and 'financial incentives' used correctly. There is an attempt to use a range of vocabulary, though some phrasing is slightly repetitive or simplistic, such as 'unnecessary effort' or 'busy lifestyle'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'iffective' and 'polocies', and minor word choice issues like 'providing cleared labelling bins' instead of 'clearer'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but more precise collocations would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people does not have') and article usage. Punctuation is inconsistent, with frequent spacing errors before punctuation marks. While the meaning is rarely obscured, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with correct verb forms and consistent punctuation.
