Student answer (Band 7.0)

In countries people don't recycle their trash as much as they should. This essay will talk about the reasons for this issue and suggest some good ways to get more people to recycle.

One big reason is that a lot of people don't know the things about recycling. They might think it's easier to throw everything into one bin and that it doesn't hurt the environment much. Also some cities don't have recycling bins or collection services. Because of this even people who want to recycle might find it hard to do. Another reason is that people have lives and pick the fastest way to get rid of trash instead of sorting it properly.

There are a things that can help with this problem. First governments should spend more on recycling systems. They can put recycling bins in public places and make sure there are regular collection services. This would make it much easier for everyone to recycle. Second schools and the media should teach people why recycling is important and how it helps reduce pollution and protect resources. When people know how their actions make a difference they are more likely to change their habits. Finally governments could offer rewards, to families that recycle often. Give small penalties to those who don't follow recycling rules. These kinds of policies have worked in some places. Could help people behave more responsibly.

In the end not recycling is mostly because of not knowing not having good facilities and having busy lives.. This problem can be fixed with better education, better recycling services and smart government rules. If these things happen more people will recycle their trash. Help protect the Earth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of infrastructure and the role of education. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion of 'small penalties' is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of how it would be implemented or its potential drawbacks. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear throughout, and the response is well-structured to cover all requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'One big reason', 'Also', 'First', 'Second', and 'Finally' to guide the reader. However, the transition between some sentences is a bit mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, though the flow could be improved by using more complex linking phrases rather than simple list-like transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You use common terms like 'trash', 'things', and 'good ways', which are functional but not academic. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'pollution' and 'resources', but the overall lexical range remains somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic synonyms. For example, instead of 'things about recycling', you could use 'the intricacies of waste management' or 'recycling protocols'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'In countries people don't recycle' (missing 'many'), 'There are a things' (incorrect article usage), and some punctuation issues, such as the comma splice in 'Finally governments could offer rewards, to families'. The sentence structure is often repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while ensuring higher accuracy in basic subject-verb agreement and punctuation.
