Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's populated age the amount of rubbish is increasing day by day and many countries are recycling their rubbish as much as they could. But many countries have no resource for recycling of rubbish which causes many problems , serious health conditions, and polluting the environment.

In many countries people do not recycle their rubbish because they use this as fertilizer. Animal manure is converted in to Urea which is used as a fertilizer in the agricultural land. And this fertilizer is naturally made which increases the productivity of crops every year therefore, in many countries many people do not recycle their rubbish to gain good yield every year. But in these countries the pollution is significantly increasing and causing air pollution and many serious health problems because of increase of rubbish.

But, in my opinion the rubbish should be recycle because it is the main problem of pollution. In many countries there are significant ways of recycling which gives benefit to the people for recycling the items so people take part in recycling happily like, In many European countries they pay for the used items. They pay .25 cents for each used bottle so this encourage people to recycle their rubbish in the seek of money and it's profitable for the people as well as the manufacturers. And it is the great way to control pollution and safe the environment. Because as mentioned earlier rubbish is the key factor for air pollution as well as water pollution, land pollution.

Hence, by converting the rubbish into Urea is profitable for farmers but destroying the air, water and land so therefore, the rubbish should be recycled to safe the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The argument regarding animal manure being used as fertilizer is a specific, interesting point, but it is not fully explored in the context of global recycling habits. The proposed solution of financial incentives is relevant and well-supported by the example of European bottle deposit schemes. To improve, you should ensure that your arguments are more balanced and that the link between the 'reasons' and 'solutions' is more clearly articulated throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'In many countries' and 'And'. Transitions between sentences could be smoother to create a more natural flow. While the logical progression is generally clear, the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be strengthened to ensure a more cohesive argument throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'populated age' (which is unclear) and 'in the seek of money' (should be 'in search of' or 'to earn money'). The essay relies on basic terminology. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental sustainability and waste management, and focus on using collocations more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'the rubbish should be recycle'), verb forms, and punctuation. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the rubbish is the key factor for air pollution as well as water pollution, land pollution.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage would significantly improve your score.
