Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development is limited. The reasons provided (lack of awareness and convenience) are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The solutions are also quite basic, focusing primarily on financial incentives. While the ideas are relevant, they are not fully extended or supported with specific, detailed examples. The response would benefit from more sophisticated reasoning and a clearer structure to fully explore the complexities of the issue. The position is clear, but the overall development remains at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'overview' or 'which is causes'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between ideas feels abrupt. While there is an attempt to use linking phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'In contrast', they are not always used logically or effectively. The paragraphing is present, but the internal flow of ideas within paragraphs needs significant improvement to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'items', 'things', 'trash', and 'garbage'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'wrong points' instead of 'improper locations' or 'aware people' instead of 'raise public awareness'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the frequent use of simplistic language restrict the score. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to environmental issues and waste management.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with sentence structure, such as sentence fragments ('which is causes lots of harms') and incorrect verb forms ('if someone throw garbage'). Punctuation is also problematic, with many sentences starting with lowercase letters or being incorrectly separated by periods. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you must focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct punctuation, as these errors are pervasive throughout the text.
