In many countries, people do not recycle their rubbish as much as they could.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some societies do not practice the recycling process in their daily lives. This is due tothe lackof awareness and unavailability of proper infrastructure by the government. The government should educate the public through awareness campaigns on media and by allocating funds improve the infrastructure of recycling goods.

Most of the people are unfamiliar with the proces of recycling. Even they cannot able to make a group of reuseable and non-reuseable things. After utilization of the products, they often throw the plastic containers and bottles into the bins. Furthermore, they even put pieces of broken glasses into waste without knowing the effects of it on other living organisms.

A second reason is lack of proper infrastructure by the government. Most of the bigger cities have no waste management systems and dustbins where the people can put their recycled items.

To encourage the individuals about the importance of recycling, the government should run ads on media channels and help the people to understand the recycling process. For example, The awareness campaigns organized by the government can give demostrations through using dustbins of different colours for three major categories; useless items, reused items and recyclling materials. Moreover, such machines should be installed in bigger cities where people put recycled items such as plastic bottles and can get money in return. furthermore, the government should allocate funds for recycling process for examples many countries

are using garbage to make electricity.

In conclusion, the recycling process can be made successful with the mutual cooperation of the government and the public. If the government educate the massess and allocate funds to give proper infrastructure for recyclling, then the outcomes will be productive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of public awareness and the absence of infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to use machines that pay for recycled items is a good point, but it could be expanded with more detail on how this incentivizes behavior. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating the introduction rather than synthesizing the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each reason and solution is supported by more specific, elaborated examples or logical consequences.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the problem to the solution. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'furthermore' and 'moreover'. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between 'broken glasses' and 'living organisms' is not fully explained. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary like 'waste management systems' and 'infrastructure'. However, there are several spelling errors ('proces', 'demostrations', 'recyclling', 'massess') and some awkward collocations, such as 'recycling goods' instead of 'recyclable materials'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and expanding their range of academic collocations to express ideas with more precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the lack of awareness', 'the recycling process'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction (e.g., 'Even they cannot able to make a group'). There are also punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring greater accuracy in basic grammar would significantly improve the score.
