Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay touches upon the reasons for low recycling rates and suggests solutions, the ideas are underdeveloped and lack depth. The focus shifts prematurely from recycling to general littering and spitting on the streets, which is only tangentially related to the prompt. The response lacks a clear structure, such as an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which prevents a fully developed argument. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and ensure your response is long enough to cover the prompt thoroughly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is written as a single, long paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of logical progression between ideas; the transition from discussing recycling to the issue of spitting on the street is abrupt and confusing. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and the lack of proper punctuation to separate sentences. The text lacks clear signposting to guide the reader through your arguments. To improve, you should use separate paragraphs for each main idea and employ a wider range of linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your thoughts.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Words like 'rubbish', 'recycle', and 'education' are used frequently without variation. There are also errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'rubbidh' and 'rubbist', which indicate a lack of proofreading. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas about environmental management. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to the topic, such as 'sustainability', 'waste management infrastructure', 'public awareness campaigns', or 'environmental degradation', and ensure that your spelling is accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay consists mostly of long, run-on sentences that lack proper punctuation, making the text difficult to read. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement and sentence fragments. For example, 'so the government should step strict measures' is grammatically incorrect and lacks clarity. The range of structures is limited, relying heavily on simple clauses joined by 'and'. To improve, you need to focus on using a variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences with subordinate clauses, and pay closer attention to basic punctuation rules, such as using periods to separate distinct thoughts.
