Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 155 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both parts of the prompt—reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions—the ideas are underdeveloped and the conclusion is incomplete. The arguments regarding government infrastructure and corporate investment are mentioned but lack the necessary depth, examples, or logical extension required for a higher band. Because the response is substantially under-length and the final paragraph is cut off, it does not fully address all parts of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' to organize ideas, which provides a rudimentary structure. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the brevity of the text and the abrupt ending. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'The reason is that people just did not bother it to use these recycle machine', where the connection between the machine and the user is poorly articulated. More varied and sophisticated linking words are needed to improve the logical flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'contaminate the garbage' (likely meaning 'sort' or 'process') and 'get rid off the liter'. The phrase 'not of tool for improving' is grammatically and lexically confusing. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'recycling', 'authorities', and 'communities', the range is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To improve, the student should focus on learning accurate collocations and expanding their range of academic vocabulary to avoid repetitive and imprecise language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('government did not make', 'Recycling the rubbish was done'), article usage ('In most of countries'), and sentence structure ('citizens also just get rid off the liter not proper recycle it'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in tense and word form. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. To reach a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence construction and attempt more complex, error-free structures.
