Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited and lacks depth. The essay is also under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop arguments. The introduction is slightly confused, stating the essay will 'not discuss the problems' when it actually does. The points made, such as 'lack of awareness' and 'bad facilities', are relevant but remain superficial. To reach a higher band, you must expand on your points with specific examples or logical explanations, ensuring the response meets the length requirement to allow for full development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a mechanical way. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of supporting detail. The conclusion is very brief and does not effectively summarise the main points. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by well-connected supporting ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'pensive concern' (likely meant 'pressing concern'), 'forthcoming fragment' (unclear meaning), and 'grabage' (spelling error). The range is sufficient to convey basic meaning, but there is little attempt to use less common or more precise vocabulary. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to environmental issues and ensure you check your spelling. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repeating words like 'waste' and 'rubbish' throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'environmental problems are become a pensive concern' (incorrect verb form), 'people through their waste' (should be 'throw'), and 'that people will aware' (missing verb). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is inconsistent. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic spacing and missing commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, and proofreading for basic spelling and word-form errors.
