Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for low recycling rates and suggesting solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. For instance, the discussion on 'dicesed' (diseases) is somewhat tangential to the core issue of recycling, and the explanation of solutions, such as using different colored bins, is quite basic. The argument lacks depth, and the connection between the reasons provided and the act of recycling is not always clear. To improve, you should focus on providing more specific, logical reasons—such as lack of infrastructure, public awareness, or government policy—and develop your solutions with more detail and clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by disjointed sentences and unclear transitions. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition', they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, which hinders the flow of the argument. The referencing is sometimes confusing, particularly in the paragraph regarding government strategies and mental health, where the connection between ideas is weak. To achieve a higher band, focus on using transition words to link sentences logically and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that supports your main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and there are frequent errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'dicesed' (diseases), 'healty' (healthy), 'cleaness' (cleanliness), 'intence' (instance), and 'polythin' (polythene). Many phrases are non-standard, such as 'living in flies' or 'thinking ability'. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'recycle', 'trash', and 'fertilizers', the overall control is weak. You need to focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and improving your grasp of collocations to express your ideas more precisely and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people do not recycle... as much as they could'), incorrect word order, and missing articles. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty, such as 'if they could recycle their rubbish then can get more profit'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree. Reducing the frequency of these errors is essential for moving to a higher band.
