In many countries, people do not recycle their rubbish as much as they could.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a lot of countries, citizens neglect recycling their garbage due to reasons like lack of knowledge and time management. Government can take extra efforts to bring a change in this.

With the growing age and time, there has been an increase in the garbage that is generated as well. People of numerous countries tend to not dispose the rubbish in a structured manner and one of the reason for the same could be lack of knowledge. Some developing countries tend to not have resources to make citizens aware about ways to dispose the garbage. In order to overcome this governments of these countries need to take extra efforts to teach people the importance of recycling and reusing.

Another reason for people not choosing to recycle is the physical effort and time it requires to think about ways to recycle something and the procedure to carry out the steps could be a tedious job. With the fast paced life, disposing the rubbish instead of recycling seems like an easier option. This can be changed by developing advanced technology to make the job of recycling a small steps job instead of the a long one. Once the importance of recycling is embedded in our minds and day-to-day life, recycling will seem more like routine instead of a task that one tends to keep pushing to do later.

Hence, children should be taught in school itself about the importance of recycling. There are numerous ways to make people aware about the importance of recycling which will be beneficial for the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention 'lack of knowledge' and 'time management' as reasons, the explanation remains quite general. For instance, the suggestion to 'develop advanced technology' is a good idea but lacks specific detail on how this would practically function. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported with more concrete examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear throughout, but the overall depth of the argument is more characteristic of a Band 6.0 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with each focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In order to', 'Another reason', and 'Hence', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences can sometimes feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly repetitive in structure. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother and more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly, such as 'tedious job', 'fast paced life', and 'embedded in our minds'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'a small steps job' or 'with the growing age and time'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary rather than relying on everyday phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'one of the reason' (should be 'reasons') and 'dispose the rubbish' (should be 'dispose of the rubbish'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'Government can take extra efforts'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and preposition usage would help improve your accuracy.
