Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided—lack of time and confusion regarding sorting—are relevant but remain superficial. The solutions offered, such as reading instructions online or asking others to discard waste, are somewhat simplistic and lack depth. While the task is addressed, the ideas are not fully extended or supported with convincing evidence, leading to a somewhat repetitive argument. To improve, you should aim to explore the underlying causes (e.g., lack of infrastructure or public awareness campaigns) in greater detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of effective cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often missing or mechanical, such as the abrupt shift in the second paragraph. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the internal structure of these paragraphs lacks the necessary linking words to create a smooth, coherent argument. Improving the use of transition signals like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' would significantly enhance the readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'garbage', 'rubbish', and 'throw'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'reclaim the garbage' instead of 'recycle waste' and 'human made waste'. The attempt to describe different types of bins is a positive step, but the vocabulary remains restricted to simple, everyday language. To reach a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental issues and sustainability, and focus on using words in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people are not recycle'), sentence fragments, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'the chances will be not properly clean'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters and misplaced commas. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with little evidence of complex grammatical forms. To improve, you must focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly verb tenses and the correct use of auxiliary verbs, before attempting more complex structures.
